SimpleFolk are West Suffolk duo Rachel Dodd and Steve Christopher, playing ‘stripped back’ versions of traditional and contemporary folk songs.
Steve moved to Suffolk from Hampshire in 2015, where he had been a member of the Romsey-based folk band Cuckoo Pint and a solo artist. He first performed with Rachel when she was persuaded to join him on stage during a gig at the Bury St Edmunds Milkmaid Folk Club in 2016. Since then, they have performed regularly together.
SimpleFolk have played at many of the local folk clubs in East Anglia, including providing the support for the Jigantics at Hadleigh and for Ninebarrow at Ely.
They have made a number of festival appearances, including the Bury Folk Festival and Bury Folk All Dayer and are looking forward to more opportunities in 2020. They have also appeared live on BBC Cambridgeshire’s Folk Show and on West Norfolk Radio.
In October 2019 they had the privilege of supporting Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith (two of Rachel’s favourites) at the Milkmaid.

From Black to Blue
SimpleFolk’s first album From Black to Blue is a collection of their favourite songs taken from the current set. As the title suggests these range from really dark themes to melancholy and nostalgia – a typical folk mix!
